Cosmetic Manufacturer USA vs Europe or China: Six Defaults

2026-10-23

A contract factory's address fills in six fields of your project before the first negotiation: who signs for the file, the clock your revisions run on, the shape of your costs, which batch line is highest, how far your rights reach, and the origin your paperwork must state.

When Free Trade Stops Protecting Beauty: The 50% US-Canada Tariff

When Free Trade Stops Protecting Beauty: The 50% US-Canada Tariff

2026-09-15

The US and Canada have hit each other with tariffs of up to 50%, directly naming perfumes and toilet waters, lip and eye makeup, hair care preparations and nail products. The change is not just the rate - this is the first time USMCA has failed to shield personal care goods from duties, which breaks the long-held assumption that origin compliance equals duty-free. This article unpacks the tariff list and effective dates, who actually absorbs the cost, the overlooked bilingual-labelling threshold, and gives buyers an actionable landed-cost reset checklist.

SPF 50+ Tested at 4: When Efficacy Claims Become Legal Liability

2026-09-14

One base formula, shared by 20 sunscreen products labelled SPF 50+, was retested as low as SPF 4. What followed: 20 recalls, the manufacturer's liquidation, and multi-million-dollar lawsuits filed by the brands. Efficacy claims have just been exposed as a legal-liability problem - and where that liability sits, between brand, manufacturer and testing lab, is now being contested in court. Here is the chain of liability, with an executable substantiation checklist and contract clauses for buyers.

When "Contains" Is No Longer Enough: Efficacy Skincare Moves Into the Dose-Response Era

2026-09-12

In September 2026, French active-ingredient supplier Seppic published standardised quantification for its Celtosome platform: at 0.05% dosage its anti-ageing active delivers 720 million exosomes per gram of formula, with up to +34% collagen I synthesis, +103% dermal hyaluronic acid and a 12% reduction in crow's feet area over 28 days; its radiance active delivers 1.44 billion per gram at 0.1%. Efficacy is shifting from "which ingredient" to "how many active units, at what dose" — your price comparisons, formulation briefs and claim evidence all need upgrading.

The Dermatologist-Stamp Era: How Sensitive-Skin Certification Is Becoming the North American Entry Ticket

The Dermatologist-Stamp Era: How Sensitive-Skin Certification Is Becoming the North American Entry Ticket

2026-09-08

In September 2026, the US National Eczema Association extended its Seal of Acceptance to colour cosmetics for the first time (foundations, concealers, primers), with each product reviewed by a panel of dermatologists and allergists, backed by external sensitivity, irritation and toxicity testing, and no added fragrance or chemical UV absorbers — IT Cosmetics, Rare Beauty, Tower 28 Beauty are among the first seal-holders. If you build sensitive-skin or repair-positioned lines, third-party dermatological certification is becoming the new filter on North American shelves and search results — your formula and testing plan must be designed "certification-ready" from day one.

PFAS 2026 Ban Map: "Forever Chemicals" in Skincare Formulas Are Being Phased Out State by State

PFAS 2026 Ban Map: "Forever Chemicals" in Skincare Formulas Are Being Phased Out State by State

2026-09-04

PFAS cosmetics bans are sweeping 2026: seven US states already prohibit them and three more will impose all-product bans by 2032, the EU's REACH universal restriction is in its endgame, and France has already banned PFAS cosmetics. The fluorinated ingredients behind "waterproof" claims are being phased out — PFAS-free declarations and TOF screening are the new entry tickets to the US and EU.

ECGT Applies September 27, 2026: "Natural", "Eco" and "Carbon Neutral" Skincare Claims Lose Their Free Pass

2026-09-02

On September 27, 2026, the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (Directive (EU) 2024/825, "ECGT") applies across all 27 member states — just 25 days from today. Already in force since March 2024, the directive puts "generic environmental claims" and "offset-based neutrality claims" on the blacklist of unfair commercial practices: wording such as "natural", "eco-friendly", "green", "biodegradable" or "carbon neutral" on skincare packaging and advertising must, from September 27, demonstrate recognised excellent environmental performance that is certified or officially recognised — otherwise it is unlawful marketing. For skincare brands entering the EU market, this is a full audit of claims, packaging copy and supply-chain evidence. The countdown has begun.

PPWR 2026 Full Enforcement: A Packaging Compliance Guide for Skincare Brands Selling to the EU

PPWR 2026 Full Enforcement: A Packaging Compliance Guide for Skincare Brands Selling to the EU

2026-08-26

On August 12, 2026, the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR, EU 2025/40) entered full application — the biggest packaging regulatory overhaul in the EU in 30 years, replacing the 94/62/EC directive that had governed for over three decades, and applying mandatorily to all packaged products placed on the EU market, skincare included. For global buyers, three things happen at once: on the nine major marketplaces — Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland and Sweden — platforms now enforce EPR registration verification; total lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium in packaging must stay at or below 100 mg/kg; and from 2030, packaging recyclability must be at least 70%. The price of non-compliance: delisting, customs detention, and fines of 4%–6% of annual turnover. Packaging compliance has become the entry ticket to the EU market.
